Lessons? Online and In Person.
I offer lessons for the French horn and music theory and composition both online and in person. Before contacting me; please read this whole page carefully!

If you are still interested afterwards please contact me here. When I read these types of emails I assume that you have fully read this page otherwise, I will disregard your email.

Depending on whether or not the lessons will be in person or online different parts of this page will apply to you. I have divided the page into multiple sections as they are appropriate, if there are sections that only apply to either online or in person lessons, they will be specified in that section.

Please note that emailing me does not guarantee acceptance into my studio.

Rules and Explanations:

I teach horn, music theory, and composition lessons at the moment. If you do not play horn and ask me for lessons the most I can do is refer you to talented musicians I know.

For Online Horn Students, I will only accept students who have 1+ years of experience playing horn or other brass instruments. The French Horn is not an easy instrument to pick up and you need a hands on teacher to start. In addition please specify your time zone so I will know the difference in time for lesson planning.

For Online Composition and Music Theory Students, I will accept you regardless of years of experience if you are willing to learn. In addition please specify your time zone so I will know the difference in time for lesson planning.

For In Person Students, I will accept you regardless of years of experience if you are willing to learn.

At this time I am only accepting students of 10 years of age and older, the horn is one of the most difficult instruments to learn to play. I need students who are willing to work with me and online lessons demand an even higher level of concentration than in-person lessons. I cannot do anything behind a computer screen if you fall asleep, throw a tantrum, or anything else.

I teach 30 minute and 1 hour lessons. Scheduling lessons can be flexible, although I prefer to do weekly or bi-weekly lessons as I feel those get the best results from my students.

I highly encourage parents to be present during the beginning and end of the lessons for students under the age of 18. I have noticed that students whose parents are more present in their lessons do better than those whose are not present.

Prices and rules are subject to change. I reserve the right to decline teaching prospective students and discontinue lessons with current students.
IMPORTANT: You must be 18 or older to contact me directly about lessons! If you are under 18, show this page to your parents, and if they are interested in having you apply for lessons, they can contact me using their email address.

Payment:
I have two methods for payment, one for online lessons and one for in person lessons.

For In Person Lessons, I charge $25 for a 30 minute lesson, and $40 for an hour lesson. At the end of the lesson I ask for payment. Thanks to the modern age with the advent of the Paypal card reader, I can take any major credit or debit card as well as cash and check. After a period of time taking lessons with me, you can switch to a monthly payment system.

Online Lessons are slightly more complicated with their payment plans. For online lessons I use the payment model made by the flustist, Joanna Tse, the 4-hour batch plan.

The plan works by me sending you a Paypal invoice, charging four hours at a time, no more, no less. This means that I will be charging you for $160 per batch.
IMPORTANT: I must receive the fee first before we start lessons, to ensure that both of us are committed to make the lessons happen. As we make our way through each lesson, I will simply subtract from what you have paid, until you need to make the next payment of 4 hours again.

Lessons will not begin until the fee has been processed. Sometimes processing fees may take up to 21 days, though usually the processing time is very quick.

There will be no refunds. This goes for both online and in person lessons.

And a few more rules:
-
It is up to the student to call me at a scheduled lesson hour.
-
If you do not call at a scheduled lesson hour, that hour is forfeit and will not be credited back to you.
-
I will only teach during the scheduled hour and will charge a full lesson hour for that time slot, regardless of when you call during that hour. For example, if we schedule a one-hour lesson at 11:00am, and you call at 11:30am, I will only teach until 12:00pm and still charge a full lesson hour. On the flip side, if I get carried away with teaching you and go overtime by a few minutes, you won't be charged for those extra minutes.
-
If a change in scheduling is needed, I require a 24-hour notice. If a change is made within those 24 hours, that lesson hour is forfeit and will not be credited back to you. The new scheduled hour will count as another lesson hour.
-
In the case of an emergency, call or email me as soon as you can to let me know. That lesson hour will be credited back to you.
-
If I need to reschedule, unless it is an emergency, I will give you a 24-hour notice. This lesson hours will be credited back to you.
Note: You are absolutely welcome to send me quick emails 24 hours before a scheduled lesson to confirm that a lesson is still going on.

One-Time Trial Lesson

For potential students, I offer a 1-time trial lesson. This is available to both online students and in person students and is available for a flat fee of $30, you can choose to have a 30 minute lesson or an hour lesson and will pay the same price regardless.

If after the trial lesson, you don't feel that online lessons are for you, then no other tuition fee is owed and no hard feelings! If you wish to continue, then we will continue with whichever payment plan is appropriate to your lesson type.

For an in person lesson, at the end of the lesson I ask for payment. Thanks to the modern age with the advent of the Paypal card reader, I can take any major credit or debit card as well as cash and check.

If this is for an online lesson, I must receive the payment prior to giving the lesson, similar to the 4-hour batch plan.

A trial lesson will not be given until the fee has been processed. Sometimes processing fees may take up to 21 days, though usually the processing time is very quick. This only applies to online lessons.

Like all lessons, there are no refunds.

Similar to the 4-hour batch plan, a few more rules:
-
It is up to the student to call me at the scheduled trial lesson hour.
-
If you do not call during your trial lesson, that trial lesson hour is forfeit and will not be credited back to you. You will not have another trial lesson. It's really only a one-time deal.
-
I will only teach the trial lesson during the scheduled time and will charge for the entirety of that scheduled time, regardless of when you call during that hour. If I go overtime for a few minutes, you will not be charged for those extra minutes.
-
If you need to reschedule your trial lesson, I require a 24-hour notice. Otherwise, the trial lesson is forfeit and will not be credited back to you. You will not have another trial lesson.
-
In the case of an emergency, call or email me as soon as you can to let me know. The trial lesson will be credited back to you, but you must reschedule your trial lesson. There are no refunds.
-
If I need to reschedule, unless it is an emergency, I will give you a 24-hour notice. The trial lesson will be credited back to you, but you must reschedule your trial lesson. There are no refunds.
Note: Only one one-time trial lesson per student. A one-time trial lesson is not required for all prospective students. I am offering it for those of you who want to try out online lessons but do not want to commit to 4 hours right away or if you would like to get a feel for my teaching style and see if it works for you.

Video calling platforms:
Zoom
FaceTime
Please note that video calling my account at other times than we have scheduled for lessons is strictly prohibited and may result in immediate termination of lessons. All lessons that were charged but not taught at that time will be forfeit and will not be credited back to you. Your account will also be blocked from contacting my account henceforth.
